The route back to Canada began with a frantic phone call a week before Christmas.

It was 2024, and the manager of the Spanish factory that produced air purifiers for Montreal’s Dupray told Brent Gray, Dupray’s co-founder, that the facility was going bankrupt. There would be no extending final production, Gray said.

Dupray, which also sells steam cleaners and other household appliances, had spent about three years developing new products with the factory, including an air purifier designed to double as a planter or side table.
