Peter Alexander will go from covering the president to the Presidents Cup this week.

The MS NOW commentator, who served as NBC News’ White House correspondent from December 2012 to March 2026, made his Golf Channel debut on Wednesday afternoon on Live From the Presidents Cup. Alexander was introduced by Golf Channel’s Rich Lerner before teeing up a package on the ties between American presidents the sport of golf, and the Presidents Cup, detailing how presidents often use golf as a “refuge from their public responsibilities.”

Alexander hosts the show State of Play on MS NOW (formerly MSNBC) at 11 a.m. ET every weekday. When the network formally separated from NBC News during the Versant spinoff in late 2025, Alexander became part of MS NOW full-time. Versant also owns Golf Channel, USA Network, and CNBC.

Speaking with Sports Business Journal about his crossover appearances on Golf Channel, Alexander said there’s likely more overlap among the news audience and the golf obsessives watching Golf Channel than people think.

“There’s a lot of similarities between audience for Golf Channel and CNBC,” he said. “MS NOW, maybe not as much yet. (But) for guys like me, it’s, ‘Hey, this is the audience I’m familiar with and here’s something that I’m passionate about. So let me just tell you a story on a different topic.’ And I hope to bring some of that audience with me. That’s what I’m excited about.”

This is not Alexander’s first foray into sports broadcasting. He has covered five Olympics for NBC Sports throughout his time at the company, including this year’s games in Milan-Cortina.

Per SBJ, Alexander has penned two pieces for Live From, the first about presidents and golf and the other about Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ, whose father was a former agronomist for the USGA (this year’s Presidents Cup is being played in Chicago).

Alexander, the report says, plans to “chip in” on more of Versant’s sports offerings in the future. The company has a solid portfolio of live rights spanning golf, Premier League, WNBA, NASCAR, Bundesliga, and college football.
