Monterey hospital says Da Vinci 5 robotic surgery could cut recovery from weeks to days
MONTEREY, Calif. —
The Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to mark the arrival of its new Da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system.
The advanced robotic tool will assist doctors in performing complex surgeries with greater precision. It is also designed to enable smaller incisions, which can result in less pain, reduced scarring, and faster recovery times for patients.
“Typically, you would come in, spend one or two days in the hospital, and the recovery is around four to six weeks with taking pain medication. With robotic surgery, because it’s more precise and because it allows us to take you out of the hospital far more quickly, sometimes in the same day, your recovery is measured in days rather than weeks,” Steven Cabrales, Montage Health chief medical officer, said.
The hospital now has three Da Vinci robotic surgical systems, further strengthening one of the most advanced robotic surgery programs on the Central Coast. The upgrade also supports the region’s only robotic thoracic surgery program.
