Amarillo playa lake levels surge after overnight flooding, McDonald Lake overflows

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Playa lakes around Amarillo are above 50% capacity, with one playa at 100%, after Tuesday’s storms.

The City of Amarillo’s playa lakes monitoring page shows the impact of Tuesday’s flooding to the Amarillo area.

Before the flooding, McDonald Lake was already at 100%. Overnight, the lake flooded onto Coulter Road at 45th.

Amarillo Fire Department urged drivers to stay away from the area as their trucks could not pass through the floodwaters.

T-Anchor Lake is at 83%, up from 55% on Tuesday.

Playa 7 is at 82%, up from 43% on Tuesday.

Bennett Lake and Lawrence Lake sit at 71%. Bennett Lake was at 50% Tuesday, and Lawrence Lake was at 43% Tuesday.

Willow Grove Lake is at 68%, McCarty Lake is at 65%, and Martin Lake is at 51%.
