BOISE, Idaho — Boating season may be over — but apparently one bear cub didn’t get the memo.
Lucky Peak Power Plant staff snapped a picture of a bear cub on Sept. 29 at the eastern edge of the Discovery Unit and entrance to the Sandy Point Unit.
Lucky Peak state park staff are reminding park goers to keep pets on leash as Sandy Point moves into pet season.

“Please stay alert, give wildlife plenty of space, and help us keep both your pets and our wildlife safe!” Lucky Peak State Park staff said in a post to Facebook.
Regional Supervisor for Idaho Fish and Game, Josh Royce provided the following statement:
“We received a report of a bear in the area. We did not respond as no additional reports came in to us, there was no indication that the bear was aggressive or causing trouble, and the area that the bear was reported in is surrounded by abundant open space. We are continuing to monitor.”
Royce also noted the “significant increases in bear conflicts this year” as a result of drought conditions. “We are emphatically encouraging people to secure their garbage and other food sources even if they live in town. Once a bear receives a food reward of that nature, it quickly becomes habituated, and decreases the options we have to address the issue. We need people’s help to keep wildlife wild.”
