Water main break floods streets in Boston’s Financial District

Peter EliopoulosBOSTON —

A water main break flooded streets in Boston’s Financial District late Thursday night.

The Boston Water and Sewer Commission said the 16-inch main broke just before midnight in the area at Purchase and Summer streets.

Purchase street is closed between Congress and Summer streets. The offramp from Interstate 93 southbound for the South Station/Mass Pike exit is closed.

Officials said the break is not impacting water service in the area.

The cause of the break remains under investigation.

WCVB will have more information when it becomes available.
