The City of Oxford is urging residents and businesses to conserve water immediately.
Oxford’s water supply comes from the Kerr Lake Regional Water System, which has issued a mandatory conservation notice because of low water levels in Kerr Lake, the city said.
City officials are asking customers to limit water use and avoid nonessential activities like watering lawns and gardens, washing vehicles and filling swimming pools.
Residents also are encouraged to take shorter showers, repair leaks quickly and run dishwashers and washing machines only when full.
The restrictions will stay in effect until the water levels in Kerr Lake improve, the city said.
