The Savannah City Amateur Championship wrapped up Sunday afternoon at Bacon Park, which marked its 100th anniversary this year as the host location.

The historic golf course has hosted the city’s amateur championship annually, with the exception of World War II and the pandemic. This year, Patrick Mahaffey claimed the title, shooting a 68 in both the first and second rounds. Mahaffey is set to play college golf next year for Sewanee.

“It feels great. I’m honored to win,” Mahaffey said. “It’s a great course. And I love playing here.”

O.C. Welch, the operator at Bacon Park Golf Course, reflected on the significance of the event.

“There’s a lot of tournaments around,” Welch said. “But it’s prestigious to play in the Savannah City Am.”
