HARRISBURG, Pa. —
Lawmakers at the Pennsylvania State Capitol announced legislation Monday afternoon to create a publicly administered, single-payer healthcare system for everyone who lives or works in the commonwealth.
Advocates of the bill said the proposal comes as recent federal Medicaid cuts begin to take effect, potentially reducing or eliminating healthcare coverage for millions nationwide, including hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians.
“Our work to position Pennsylvania as a leader in making it possible for people to access the medical care they need and deserve becomes ever more important,” Sen. Nikil Saval said. “All of us, regardless of where we live, where we work, or how much money we earn, deserve access to high-quality healthcare that we can afford.”
The proposal is being supported by Healthcare 4 All PA.
