Opening up.
Bachelor Nation fans got to know and love former Bachelorette Katie Thurston on Season 17 of “The Bachelorette.”
Since her time on the show, Katie found love off-screen with comedian Jeff Arcuri and the two officially tied the knot last year.
Katie also shared that she has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. And earlier this year, she underwent a double mastectomy.
Katie has been keeping followers updated with her treatment journey online. And recently, she joined fellow Bachelor Nation star Joe Amabile for an interview on the “Not Married to This” podcast to share more about her experience.

While on the podcast, the two discussed their individual health journeys and Katie recalled when she found out she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
As she reflected on that time, the former Bachelorette revealed that she had planned to write a letter for Jeff’s future wife because she didn’t know what the future held after receiving her diagnosis.
She shared, “This will be sad. I didn’t know how long I was going to live. And so I remember thinking like, I’m going to write a letter to his future wife because I didn’t know. I knew he’d stay. You know, and I also just thought like I wasn’t going to be around for very long. But, here I am.”

Katie continued, confirming that she was never worried Jeff would leave her.
Answering Joe’s question, she said, “I never thought he would leave, I was ready to give him permission to. I was ready to, like I said, write a letter to whoever his future wife would be. I don’t even think he knows that.”
Katie then added that they’re still figuring out what their life looks like, but revealed what’s helped them navigate this chapter.
She stated, “We’re figuring out what our new norm is. I’m here, my health is great, it’s been working. He’s the best… We’ve really just navigated this whole thing through humor and I think that’s helped so much.”
We appreciate Katie’s vulnerability and hearing more about her experience. We’re sending our love and continuing to wish her all the best during her treatment journey.
