DALLAS — Sam Dickinson’s parents, Steve and Megan, were in town for the San Jose Sharks’ opening weekend.

Unfortunately, Dickinson was scratched in favor of Nolan Allan. Fortunately, Dickinson had his parents to lean on to talk about other things, besides hockey.

That was a good reset for Dickinson, who’s going to make his season debut on Monday night at the Dallas Stars.

“I’m not going to try to do too much to prove a point or anything like that,” Dickinson said today. “I’m just happy to be in the line-up.”

Dickinson will pair with Jacob Trouba, ahead of Allan.

San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky is looking for Dickinson to keep trending up. The 2024 No. 11 pick closed the pre-season with a strong performance against the Vegas Golden Knights.

“Build off his last game there in the exhibition. He was dialed in without the puck,” Warsofsky said, “and when he has it, let’s have his strengths come out.”

That’s what Dickinson wants too: “I’m not trying to be someone that I am [not]. Bring my game, do the things that I’ve always done well, it’s moving my feet, defending hard, being good moving the puck, get it up ice, and just kind of go from there.”

San Jose Sharks (2-0-0)

Yaroslav Askarov will start his third-straight.

The San Jose Sharks, except for Dickinson, ran similar 5-on-5 and power play lines during morning skate:

Marchment-Celebrini-Smith
Chernyshov-Misa-Toffoli
Stenberg-Wennberg-Graf
Goodrow-Ostapchuk-Sherwood

Nurse-Kesselring
Dickinson-Trouba
Orlov-Cagnoni

Askarov

Here’s how they looked on the power play…

PP1: Cagnoni-Celebrini-Smith-Chernyshov-Wennberg

PP2: Orlov-Marchment-Stenberg-Toffoli-Misa

Adam Gaudette (upper-body) also joined the San Jose Sharks on this road trip, but Warsofsky cautioned that his return wasn’t immediate, because he missed all of training camp and the coaching staff wants to see him in some practices.

Dallas Stars (0-2-0)

Steel-Johnston-Rantanen
Hryckowian-Hyry-Seguin
