After a month’s worth of games, we’ve seen a rash of backup signal-callers get called into action across the league. That’s especially true for the quarterbacks in the NFC East.
Jaxson Dart has been lost, at minimum, for the regular season for the Giants. Jameis Winston has helped New York to a couple of wins and the team also swung a trade for former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, too.
Jayden Daniels is out of the lineup once more for Washington. Marcus Mariota was fantastic in an upset win over Seattle in Week 3, but got injured on Sunday over in London, necessitating seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis to step in against the Colts.
Andy Dalton has thrown just a single pass for the Eagles this season, but it was a costly one: a goal line interception against the Bears last Monday while Jalen Hurts was momentarily sidelined, creating a massive inflection point in that matchup. Dalton was so bad that the Eagles made Tanner McKee their official QB2 this past Sunday.
Dallas’ Sam Howell hasn’t played much football at all since being a full-time starter in 2023 with Washington, but he does bring that experience to the table, at least.
This all leads to my question… How confident are you in your team’s backup QB situation?
As an Eagles fan, the “Quarterback Factory” of yesteryear feels eons ago. I think McKee still might have a little bit juice even after a bad Week 18 performance last season, so I’ll go with a 4 out of 10 right now. Dalton should never see the field again though. I’d rather trot out fifth-round rookie Cole Payton at that point.
I’m interested in hearing what all the fan bases think…
