AUSTIN, Texas —
Former Alabama coach Dennis Franchione died Tuesday at 75 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Franchione was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and later beat it.
The cancer returned in 2021.
He went into full remission, but it returned again this year, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which first reported his death.

Franchione led the Crimson Tide for two seasons, from 2001 to 2002, and had a 17-8 record. He left the University of Alabama after the 2002 season to become head coach at Texas A&M.

Franchione spent five seasons as Texas A&M’s head coach and later coached at Texas State.
