High fantasy, romantasy, sword and sorcery, ensorcelled travelogues with pure twinkle: There are as many robust and rich types of fantasy as there are sparkling shafts of sunlight streaming through an enchanted wood.
Standing in every beautiful beam seems like a dream, but that dream will materialize for readers of fantasy fiction at The Autry Museum of the American West.
The bewitching bastion of art and history will open up its lovely lawn to the Fall Fantasy Book Faire, a weekend-long whimsy celebrating fantasy authors, fantasy fans, and those realms that exist just beyond our gaze, though not too far ahead.
The dates are Oct. 10 and 11 and tickets are available at The Autry’s site (do keep in mind Oct. 10 tickets are their own page, as are Oct. 11 tickets).
A marketplace is at the center of the spritely action, and author appearances will add to the glee and gravitas of the event. Look also for “themed activations designed to bring fantasy to life.”
Though Southern Californian temperatures may not yet dip into the territory of a foggy sylvan forest, we will enjoy a brief-ish respite from the heat over the weekend, though some rain is due. Still, doesn’t a little mist feel like the weather a reader might find in a rollicking otherworldly adventure?
That said, do watch for weather updates regarding the event via The Autry’s social media.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, and definitely go-the-distance-ly: “Cosplay is encouraged,” so feel free to arrive in your best goblin glamour get-up, dragon-inspired dress, or pixie couture.
