Isaias to impact the Gulf Coast this week, Carolinas by the weekend

Brian SlocumMichael Pardee

Isaias is the first Atlantic hurricane of the season and is rapidly strengthening in the Gulf with 75mph winds.

Air Force Hurricane Hunters are currently investigating Isaias as hurricane warnings go into effect for portions of the northern Gulf Coast.

Tropical Depression Nine formed Tuesday evening and strengthened into Tropical Storm Isaias early Wednesday morning. The WXII 12 First Warning Weather Team expects Isaias to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the Gulf Coast beginning Friday, potentially as a Category 2 hurricane.

North Carolinians making Saturday and Sunday plans should closely monitor the track of T.S. Isaias. The storm will move inland this weekend, so folks would likely need to take a rain jakcet or other rain gear while out. There is increasing confidence that the storm could bring impactful rain to the Carolinas Saturday night through Sunday night.

It’s still too early to know for sure where the system will track and when, but rainy weather could impact the Carolinas as early as late Saturday.
