European chip names were hit harder. STMicroelectronics dipped 2.6%, Soitec and Infineon fell more than 1%, while chip-testing company Technoprobe slid 2.6%. Siltronic slipped 1.4%, Aixtron fell 1.9%, and ASM International lost 2.4%. Among equipment makers, ASML and BE Semiconductor shed over 1% each.

The moves followed a steep drop in Asian memory stocks. SK Hynix plunged 10%, Samsung Electronics lost 7.4%, and Tokyo-listed Kioxia fell as much as 13.3%. In Japan, SoftBank Group, which has significant exposure to the global AI industry, sank 8.5% and led a broader retreat in the country’s semiconductor and electronics shares.

Those declines came after a weak session for tech on Wall Street, where the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.44% Monday. Micron slid 3.9% as investors weighed rising competition from China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies. Over the weekend, CXMT said it had made significant progress on a new chip architecture designed to increase memory density by packing more data into a smaller space.
