BULLARD — The Bullard ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved to immediately accept the voluntary resignation of Superintendent Dr. Micah Dyer during a special meeting Tuesday night. The board also appointed Jodie Albritton to serve as the acting superintendent.

Dyer, who was formally placed on paid administrative leave last week, had been in the position since March 30.

The district said an agreement has been reached which allows Dyer “the ability to pursue other interests and permits the board to pursue hiring another superintendent,” the board of trustees said in a statement. “The board and Dr. Dyer have entered into the agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and in the best interests of the district.”

The board said it appreciates Dyer for his efforts while serving as superintendent. It also wished him the best in his future endeavors.

Dyer thanked past and current school board members for providing him with the opportunity to work at Bullard ISD.

In a joint statement, Dyer expressed “heartfelt appreciation to the staff and community for their support of the district’s programs and services” during his time as superintendent.

“Success requires hard work, dedication, leadership, and vision. The Board and Dr. Dyer wish to acknowledge and recognize the teachers, principals, administrators, staff, students, parents, and patrons who have all contributed to the District’s accomplishments,” the district’s joint statement reads.

The board said it will soon begin its search for a new superintendent with a goal to not interrupt the district’s operations. The board plans to discuss next steps in the search for a new superintendent in the coming weeks.

“The district will keep families and the community informed as plans move forward,” the district said Tuesday night in its statement.

Albritton will act as superintendent for now until a new superintendent is appointed. Albritton is currently assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction and has spent the past 10 years in administrative roles at Bullard ISD. She has 26 years of experience in education and is a graduate of Bullard ISD. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, a Master of Educational Administration, and superintendent certification from The University of Texas at Tyler.

Both actions were approved during the public meeting after the board reconvened following a 1-hour-and-35-minute executive session. No one spoke during the open forum portion of the meeting.

Tuesday’s meeting followed a special meeting Oct. 5, when trustees voted unanimously to place Dyer on paid administrative leave after a closed session lasting about 1 hour and 40 minutes. The district did not disclose details behind the decision, citing an active and pending personnel matter.

“The Board wants all BISD students, parents, and community members to know that this action does not extend from any allegations of any misconduct with students,” the district said a statement last Monday. “You can all be certain that the Board remains fully committed to keeping Bullard ISD a safe place for all students, parents, employees, and guests.”

A formative evaluation of Dyer was listed as an executive session item during the board’s Sept. 14 regular meeting.

Dyer was named Bullard ISD’s lone superintendent finalist in February and formally hired in March after the state’s mandatory 21-day waiting period. He began serving as superintendent March 30, taking over for Jan Hill, who had served as interim superintendent after previous superintendent Dr. Jack Lee left the district to accept the top role at Seguin ISD.

Dyer had more than a decade of superintendent experience when he joined Bullard ISD. He previously led Lovelady ISD and Cuero ISD.
