WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – She spent four decades running greens and fairways — now she wants back in the game.
Andrea Doane submitted the only bid to run the city-owned Watertown Golf Club in Thompson Park next season and brings more than 42 years of golf business experience to the table.
Doane once owned the Rustic Golf and Country Club on Pillar Point. She sold it a decade ago, but says her family, including 2 grown children and her husband, has been eyeing a return to golf for years. This bid, she says, is their shot.
City council is looking at bids to run the course and operations next season as a way to cut costs.
The city has lost money running the golf course over the past 3 years with the 2025 season scoring around an $85,000 loss. 2026 numbers aren’t in yet.
Doane says she can bring down operating expenses and hopes to keep the golf course a treasure in the park.
City Hall had no comment on the bid.
City council can accept or reject the bid. Some council members are still willing to have the city run the course for another season to see if the finances improve.
