Jason Statham is back and once again has action cinema buzzing as he returns to his best and most beekeeping-infused action thriller franchises in the first trailer for his highly anticipated sequel, The Beekeeper 2, courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios. The Stath reprises the role of the mysterious former assassin Adam Clay and unleashes an onslaught of action that makes use of a flamethrower and a swarm of bees to take down his enemies. And the results are sweeter than the finest honey.
Released in 2024, The Beekeeper follows one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance, which takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers.” The action thriller saw huge success for The Stath, going on to gross $152.7 million at the worldwide box office and scoring 71% from critics alongside a hugely impressive 92% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Beekeeper 2 sees Statham join forces with Nobody 2, The Night Comes for Us, and The Shadow Strays director Timo Tjahjanto (in other words, one of the most exciting filmmakers in the action thriller game) with the Amazon MGM Studios sequel calling Adam Clay back into action after the clandestine organization of assassins known as “Beekeepers” go rogue and kidnap the President of the United States. So, while he tried to kill POTUS in the first outing, this time he’ll be fighting to save them.
Still very much in love with bees (as established in the first outing, this is not a requirement for being a Beekeeper, and is instead just a Statham thing), the new footage is sweeter than honey and finds the popular actor and martial artist called back into action, wasting no time in shooting as many people as possible. At one stage, he even makes one of his enemies eat a flamethrower before delivering the kind of throwback one-liner that is sure to make you feel giddy.
Directed by Timo Tjahjanto, written by Umair Aleem, and starring Jason Statham alongside returning members of the hive Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jemma Redgrave, and Jeremy Irons, The Beekeeper 2 adds Yara Shahidi (Black-ish), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning), and WWE star Adam Copeland, The Beekeeper 2 is by far one of the most buzzworthy new Statham releases. With the first proving to be one of his most delightfully wacky throwback thrillers, the sequel will clearly up the ante, even taking The Stath back to his Transporter days as it puts him behind the wheel of a car that is best described as Fast & Furious meets James Bond. While you should never wish time away, January 15, 2027, can’t get here quickly enough.
