The Philadelphia Flyers are a little banged up after earning their first victory of the 2026-27 campaign. According to a team announcement, the Flyers recalled defenseman Hunter McDonald from the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Philadelphia also placed defenseman Cam York on the injured reserve with an upper-body injury.
Those weren’t the only roster moves the Flyers made. Philadelphia also reassigned defenseman Helge Grans and forward Jack Studnicka to AHL Lehigh Valley, leaving them with 21 players on the roster. Furthermore, Siobhan Nolan of The Hockey News reported this morning that forwards Sean Couturier and Tyson Foerster are considered game-time decisions for tomorrow’s contest against the Colorado Avalanche.
However, it’s not all bad news for the Flyers. By reassigning Grans and Studnicka, Philadelphia has opened the door for Travis Konecny and Rasmus Ristolainen’s activation from the injured reserve tomorrow. Even if Couturier and Foerster aren’t healthy enough to play, the Flyers could quickly pivot to 11 forwards and seven defensemen for tomorrow’s game. Both Konecny and Ristolainen were given day-to-day recovery timelines. Regardless, they have the roster space to pivot if necessary.
If McDonald is included in the lineup tomorrow, he could provide Philadelphia with a spark from the blue line. After registering six assists in 65 games for the Phantoms last year, McDonald has registered one goal and three points in his first six contests this season.
Meanwhile, since York’s injured reserve placement is retroactive to October 8th, he’s eligible for activation at any time. Unfortunately, the Flyers haven’t issued a firm recovery timeline for York, and he’s already missed five consecutive games.
