Special Prosecutor Kim Gun-hee’s team said on the 17th, “We will summon the arrested suspect Kim Ye-sung at 10 a.m. on the 18th.”
The special prosecutor’s team made the remarks in a media announcement earlier in the day.
Earlier on the 15th, the court issued an arrest warrant for Kim on charges of embezzlement under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Economic Crimes after interrogating the suspect before arresting him.
The special prosecutor’s team is investigating Kim’s alleged embezzlement of 3.38 billion won in IMS Mobility funds, a rental car company in which he participated in the establishment and owned a stake.
IMS Mobility received 18.4 billion won from Kakao Mobility and Shinhan Bank in 2023, of which 4.6 billion won was used by Innovest Korea related to Kim to buy IMS Mobility shares.
The special prosecution team suspects the possibility that the company’s funds may have been managed under a borrowed name based on the fact that Kim’s spouse was listed as the only in-house director of Innobest Korea in the process.
It is judged that Kim misappropriated 2.43 billion won by lending it to Cho Young-tak, CEO of IMS Mobility.
After leaving Vietnam in April, Kim refused to comply with the request to attend the special prosecutor’s office, issuing arrest warrants, invalidating passports, and seeking an Interpol red card. Kim returned to Incheon International Airport on the 12th, a day before his passport expired, and was arrested at the scene.
