U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that the United States and India are close to finalising a trade agreement between the two countries.
Anadolu Agency reported on Monday, October 19, that Rubio made the remarks in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, saying both sides were working to finalise the agreement.
Rubio is scheduled to meet with his counterparts from Central Asian countries before embarking on a three-day visit to India.
The United States and India announced in February that they had reached an understanding on a framework for an interim agreement to resolve bilateral trade disputes.
Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, also said last week that the first part of the trade agreement between the two countries had been finalised and was undergoing legal drafting.
He expressed hope that the agreement would be finalised soon and implemented once the necessary conditions had been met.
