WESTERLY — The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery of Westerly is inviting members of the public to its November show, “How We Got Here – Moments In Time,” an art show that aims to take viewers on a journey through the defining moments that shape lives, communities, and histories.
The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery of Westerly exhibits a new show every month featuring original artwork from its approximately 50 artist members.
“How We Got Here – Moments In Time” will feature two-dimensional and three-dimensional original artworks including paintings, glass, woodwork, pottery, jewelry, fabric, holiday cards and more.
Through diverse artistic perspectives and mediums, the exhibition explores memory, change, and the fleeting instances that leave lasting impressions. Each work serves as a marker in time, revealing the paths that have brought us to the present.
The show will run from November 4 to Nov. 29 with an opening reception, free and open to the public, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6. The reception will feature hors d’oeuvres as well as wine provided by Perks and Corks of Westerly.
In addition to the exhibit, the gallery has announced that it will be collecting donations of new art supplies to be delivered to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center for the holidays.
People are encouraged to drop off art donations throughout November and early December to help give the gift of art and spread some holiday cheer. Suggested art supplies include art packets for children of all ages, watercolor sets or acrylics with brush & paper, crayons with pad, and markers or colored pencils with drawing pads.
The Gallery also offers scheduled lectures, workshops and art classes. The gallery’s highlight class for November will be taught by Tammy Blais, an artist and member who creates highly stylized paintings, mostly featuring nautical themes.
Blais will offer two, two hour classes for participants to sketch a motif and then produce a finished 6×8” oil painting using only a palette knife. Classes are scheduled for Tuesday, November 10 at 2 p.m. and Tuesday November 24 at 5:30 p.m.
The cost of the course is $50 and preregistration is required. Interested participants can contact Blais at Tammy@tammyblaisart.com and payment may be made by cash, check, or Venmo.
The fine arts gallery is a 501-(c)3 non-profit organization ocated at 14 Railroad Avenue in the historic Westerly Train Station. Other forms of membership are also available and non-artist members are welcome.
