People wanting to dispose of unused and leftover prescription medications will be able to drop them off, no questions asked, at sites throughout San Diego County on Saturday.
The event is part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration with help from local law enforcement agencies.
Drop-off locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will accept medication in tablet, capsule, liquid and patch form. Syringes and sharps won’t be accepted.
“By participating in Take Back Day, you are preventing potentially addictive medications from falling into the wrong hands — a small step that can save lives,” DEA Administrator Terry Cole said in a statement.
The event also prevents unwanted medications from being improperly disposed of, such as being flushed down the toilet, which can have negative impacts on the environment and water supply.

Several other drop-off sites are available year-round, such as pharmacies, hospitals and police departments.
