With golden shovels in hand and a lighted Folsom sign in the background, Kaiser Permanente dug into the dirt for the ceremonial groundbreaking of a new comprehensive care center under construction along Iron Point Road on Tuesday morning.

The new 187,000-square-foot outpatient facility is set to include 60 clinical offices offering a wide range of care options, including primary and specialty care, imaging, lab and pharmacy services.

“Folsom continues to grow and Kaiser Permanente is meeting the needs by bringing services to this community,” said Dr. Rich Florio, a Kaiser Permanente vascular surgeon.

The project also includes a 27,000-square-foot expansion of the existing surgery, which is expected to be completed in March 2028, according to a news release.

“There’s this perception that surgery needs to be done in a hospital and requires extended hospital stays. That’s just not the case anymore,” Florio said. “This will allow more people to have surgery closer to home and to recover in their home.”

The new comprehensive care center is currently expected to open in May 2030.

The new facility would also create more than 1,100 new parking spaces.
