Boil water advisory issued for parts of Ogdensburg

  • October 20, 2026

OGDENSBURG, New York (WWNY) – The City of Ogdensburg Department of Public Works has issued a precautionary boil water advisory effective Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026. The advisory affects all residents and businesses located within the 500 and 600 blocks of Morris Street and the 600 block of Jay Street.

Immediate action required

Residents and businesses in these blocks must bring all tap water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute and let it cool completely before using. Alternatively, residents can use commercially bottled water certified by the New York State Department of Health.

Boiled or bottled water must be used for the following activities:

Drinking water and making iceBrushing teethWashing dishesPreparing food or baby formulaWhat caused the advisory and timeline

The advisory was put in place as a standard precautionary measure due to localized infrastructure work or a sudden drop in water system pressure. When pressure drops, it increases the risk that untreated groundwater or harmful microbes could inadvertently find their way into the water lines.

Once the DPW finishes the necessary repairs and fully restores water service, crews will begin collecting bacteriological samples. Under New York state health laws, the water must pass two consecutive days of negative testing before it can be declared safe again.

The advisory is expected to remain active for at least two to three days. Local officials will distribute a rescind notice or alert local news once testing is complete and the water is cleared for normal use.

For direct inquiries or to check if a specific address is included, residents can contact the City of Ogdensburg Filtration Department at (315) 393-0490 or the DPW at (315) 393-2300.
