CHERRY HILL, N.J. (WPVI) — A suspicious envelope targeting Democratic New Jersey congressman Donald Norcross is the latest in a string of threats against members of Congress.
The United States Postal Service intercepted the envelope on Monday before it made it to Norcross’ office in Cherry Hill.
Dozens of House offices have received suspicious mail but, so far, none of the envelopes have tested positive for hazardous substances.
“As more Americans learn the scale, frequency, and severity of these types of threats, it should be a wakeup call to prioritize building a politics where passionate disagreement doesn’t have to be violent,” Norcross said in a statement.
Preliminary information suggests there are over 100 letters circulating in the U.S. mail system that apparently contain white powder, law enforcement sources recently told ABC News.
The FBI confirmed in a statement to ABC News on Thursday that it was working with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in a probe over “a series of suspicious mailings sent to various addresses nationwide, including Secretary of State offices and their related election offices.”
