SOUTH HEIDELBERG TWP., Pa. – A new health clinic for veterans is slated to open in Sinking Spring by early 2028 to meet a growing demand for health services in Berks County.
The Berks County Veterans Affairs Community Clinic will be located in at 4710 Penn Ave., Suite 100, in a portion of the former Fecera’s Furniture building, according to a news release from VA Lebanon Healthcare System.
“This is going to be a tremendous step in the right direction, so we couldn’t be more excited,” Jay Ostrich, Director of Berks County Veterans Affairs, told 69 News.
VA Lebanon Healthcare System is one of 170 medical centers focused exclusively on caring for veterans. It serves a nine-county area in South Central Pennsylvania that includes Berks County.
The Sinking Spring VACC will provide primary care, mental and behavioral health care, women’s health care, laboratory services, social work services, X-rays, audiology, optometry, physical therapy, pharmacy counseling, nutrition services, whole health care and telehealth services, the news release said.
“We salute them for recognizing that the demand here in Berks County is still great, and we still have gaps in care, especially when it comes to mental health and women,” Ostrich said.
The new veteran’s clinic will replace a current one at 2762 Century Blvd. in Wyomissing.
“We couldn’t be happier to have a bigger, better federal VA footprint here in Berks County,” Ostrich said.
VA Lebanon Healthcare System announced Tuesday that it awarded a 10-year contract to Motus Development to build and manage the Sinking Spring VACC. Motus Development is a real estate development company based in Wyomissing.
“We are thrilled to meet the expanding demand for Veterans services in Berks County with a strong and reliable partner like Motus Development,” Dr. Stuart A. Roop, the VA Lebanon Healthcare System Acting Director, said in a news release.
“Our vision and values align perfectly, and Veterans will benefit from this joint operation,” he added.
The new VACC, which will be built out and remodeled by next October, will have 29,388 square feet of clinical space and 150 parking spaces.
“This achievement reflects exceptional collaboration across planning, design, procurement, and program leadership,” Roop said. “I am grateful for all the hard work and commitment to delivering critical infrastructure that supports Veterans!”
