EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Texas Medical Board has temporarily suspended the medical license of an El Paso physician arrested in connection with an indecent assault investigation involving a patient at University Medical Center.

A board disciplinary panel suspended Edward A. Michelson, M.D.’s license without notice on Oct. 14, saying his continued practice poses a continuing threat to public welfare.

The suspension took effect immediately and will remain in place until the board takes further action.

The panel’s decision followed Michelson’s arrest on a felony charge of indecent assault by a health care service provider, according to the board.

A temporary suspension hearing with notice is expected to be held as soon as practicable. Michelson must receive 10 days’ notice unless he waives the hearing.

Michelson, a contracted emergency medicine provider at UMC, was arrested Sept. 30.

He was accused of inappropriately touching a patient during an Aug. 28 hospital visit, according to a criminal complaint affidavit.

UMC previously said Michelson was suspended from the hospital while internal and third-party investigations were pending.
