If you’re reading this, I presume you’re a sports fan and if you are a sports fan, this is a great week to be alive. Let me tell you what I have planned.
I am writing this on Tuesday and the NBA season begins today so I’ll have the Boston and Detroit game on my iPad while I work this afternoon. Better matchups will be available to watch later this evening and this week too.
I will turn my attention to the WNBA on Wednesday evening to watch game 3 of the WNBA Finals. The Valkyries and Dream are currently tied at one game apiece after Atlanta’s Angel Reese put on a clinic in Game 2. She scored 30 points and snagged 16 rebounds whilst stealing home court advantage for the Dream. I want to see if she can do it again.
We already know there’s an NFL game on Thursdays and this week’s matchup will be New England versus Chicago. I will continue my tradition of rooting for Drake May yet rooting against all other Patriots. That game will only get part of my attention though.
The remainder of my focus will be on that “bunch of jerks” from Raleigh as the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night as well. The defending champions currently lead their division, and, while it is still early in the season, they look prepared to defend their title.
I will be watching high school football on Friday evening and cheering on my GodSon on his senior night. This will undoubtably be the highlight of my sports week, and it’s not even close.
The World Series will also be starting on Friday night, so if you’re not with me or watching a high school football game of your own, you can watch that. If you care about baseball like I do however, you can watch the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and support the North Carolina Courage in their match against the Thorns FC in Portland.
Saturday brings college football and if you know what happened to the top teams this past weekend, you’re aware of how exciting it can be. Any given Sunday became any given Saturday and we were reminded that nothing is guaranteed. Game 4 of the WNBA Finals is also at 1 p.m. so that will be on one of the screens.
My (mostly) football weekend ends on Sunday as it always does with me watching RedZone for seven hours of no longer commercial free football.
I anticipate I will also be watching the inside of my eyelids for an hour or two in the afternoon because I’ve reached an age when an afternoon nap is delightful. After the week I just described, I think I’ll need it.
