CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, Mich,. (WPBN/WGTU) — Construction is underway to rebuild the historic Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix County, nearly one year after a fire destroyed the landmark known as the “Casino,” which had been part of the community since 1922.
Friday will mark one year since a fire destroyed the Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix County.
We’re told that since the fire, the community has been supportive, with the Grey Gables Restaurant and Catering allowing club members to hold meetings in its facility.
The construction project started Oct. 5.
General Manager David Gray says it’s been a year of planning and preparation, including forming two committees to plan social events and construction plans.
“Of course, when the members got back it was emotional for many of them, who for generations have grown up here,” Gray said. “But there was also an excitement of a new building that will last for another 100-150 years. It’s a really neat community.”
The suspect, Michael Ricks, a 44-year-old Charlevoix Township man, was charged with two felony arson counts.
The case was bound over to circuit court for trial earlier this month.
