Now that our heart rates have returned to a normal, healthy level after two walk-off field goals and a double overtime that led to three ranked losses in the afternoon window, let’s touch base on the night block.

On paper, this wasn’t supposed to be a crazy weekend with only two ranked-versus-ranked matchups on the docket.

However, if one more Top 25 team falls to an unranked team, it will be the most unranked over ranked wins of the season. Week 6 and this week are now tied, with four unranked over ranked wins.

No. 12 Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt

The Wildcats are narrowly leading the Commodores 14-10 going into the half in Lexington.

With big wins over ranked teams like LSU and Texas A&M, Will Stein’s Kentucky team has been giving big dogs a run for their money, earning the No. 12 spot in the latest AP poll — the Wildcats highest ranking since 2022.

But for Vanderbilt quarterback Jared Curtis, the Wildcats’ ranking is just another number.

Curtis is 17-of-22 with 130 passing yards and a touchdown thus far, with five of his wide receivers hitting double digits in yardage, leaning heavily on his 6-foot-7 tight end Cole Spence.

This will definitely be a game to keep an eye on.

No. 16 Southern Cal at Wisconsin

The Badgers lead the Trojans 10-7 going into the half, giving yet another Top 25 team a first-half scare.

Southern Cal has less than 100 yards of offense thus far. The last time the Trojans had 100 yards or fewer of offense in a half? Versus Utah in 2018.

No. 7 Ole Miss at No. 19 Texas

Well, as Sam Ehlinger once said, Texas might be back.

In the primetime slot, Texas leads Ole Miss 24-3 approaching the half with an impressive display from Arch Manning.

Manning, who’s been on the brutal end of some scrutiny after Texas’ 27-24 loss against unranked Florida last week, is 12-of-18 for 164 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception.

With less than six minutes left in the half, Texas has 257 yards of offense, while Ole Miss has 67.
