Davide Bartesaghi was one of the stand-out players in AC Milan’s win over Udinese, and he felt comfortable in his new role.
When the teams were announced around one hour and 15 minutes before kick-off, there was a frantic scramble to try and figure out exactly what Amorim had gone for. It became clear from the early exchanges that Bartesaghi was playing as a left midfielder rather than a left-back.

It proved to be a winning move as the Italian used all of his pace and power to generate multiple dangerous opportunities, linking particularly well with Christian Pulisic who drifted into the channels on that side. In the end Milan won 2-0, with Pulisic and Omari Hutchinson scoring.
Bartesaghi spoke to DAZN following the conclusion of the game to provide his analysis of what was a positive night for him individually and for the team, as they climbed back into the top four. MilanNews transcribed his comments.
Amorim said he thinks you’re better going forward than defending…
“He told me that too before, after the game. Luckily, I can play both phases. I have a lot to improve on; I could have done better in many situations. But I’m young and I have to keep improving every day.”

Are you in good shape? Did it help you play this position?
“I’m in excellent physical condition, and I owe that to the coach. I felt comfortable in my position tonight, both with myself and with my team-mates.”
What is the mood like within the squad?
“It’s a fabulous, top group. That starts with the coach. Then it’s up to us to get on the pitch. We try to give 100% regardless of who’s on the pitch, and that’s also evident with the injury situation, which unfortunately is going a bit so-so.”
Are you more involved in the manager’s ideas than you were at the beginning of the season?
“Things change throughout the season, but the principles remain the same. We need to be hungry and determined when we take to the field wearing this jersey, which are the most important things, besides tactical considerations.”
