Sanford Health has started construction on a combined clinic and Lewis Drug location in southeast Sioux Falls.
Sanford 57th & Veterans Parkway Clinic will feature acute care, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology services to serve the growing southeast side of Sioux Falls and neighboring communities. It’s located within the Founder’s Crossing development from the Good Samaritan Society, which is part of Sanford Health.
The clinic and retail concept will be similar to Sanford’s development at Madison Street and Veterans Parkway; “however, this will have enhancements to it,” said Andy Munce, president and CEO of Sanford Sioux Falls.
“This will have acute care and service areas, as well as advanced imaging. Most clinics will have X-ray, and we’ll have CT and ultrasound services to help the diagnostic capabilities of the clinic and acute care,” Munce said. “It benefits the tie-in with Founder’s Crossing and those patients as well. It’s off the main (hospital) campus and more convenient for folks.”
Plans for the nearly 30,000-square-foot clinic include 34 exam rooms, five treatment rooms, radiology, therapy and walk-in lab services.
Adding acute care will take pressure off the next closest location at 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue, Munce said.
In addition to clinic services, Lewis Drug will be attached to the facility, which will feature a Sanford Health Equip location inside. Lewis Drug became a business unit of Sanford Health a year ago.
“It’s really a full-service store with a pharmacy,” Munce said.
The clinic and Lewis will be directly connected to Good Samaritan – Founder’s Crossing, giving residents of the campus direct access to healthcare, prescription drug services and home medical equipment.
The first residents have started moving into independent living villas, with independent and assisted living apartments, memory care suites, short-term rehabilitation and the long-term care center set to open over the next couple of years.
“This is an absolute huge win to have the clinic as part of Founder’s Crossing and the continuum of care that Good Samaritan provides,” Munce said. “But the other piece is this is a clinic for the entire southeast side of Sioux Falls. As Veterans Parkway gets completed, this is a large hub, and this clinic serves that entire population.”
Sanford has owned the land for “15 to 20 years,” he estimates. “And there are a lot of strategies and thought processes that come across. As we’ve talked about our Sioux Falls strategies, our main medical center in the core of town is a lot of our subspecialty services, our surgical services, ER services. Then this really becomes our rooftop strategy to bring care to those within the region as the region develops around it.”
TSP is the architect for the project, and Fiegen Construction is the general contractor.
Construction on the clinic began earlier this month, and the facility will open to patients in August 2028. Veterans Parkway is expected to reach from Interstate 90 to Western Avenue by late fall of 2028, with the final segment connecting from Western to Interstate 29 by 2029.
