FOREST, Va. (WSET) — Nearly 7,000 homes and businesses in Forest now have another option for high-speed internet following the completion of a broadband expansion project by Comcast’s Xfinity.

The company celebrated the project’s completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, marking a new option for residents and businesses looking for reliable internet service.

Local leaders say expanding broadband access and increasing competition among providers can benefit consumers and businesses by encouraging continued investment and innovation.

Linda Brown, CEO and founder of Joe Beans, said the new service has made a difference in her business.

“When we first switched over, we were very pleased with the fast internet, the reliability. It didn’t go down,” Brown said. “And that’s what we need to run our business through to keep our customers happy, keep our lines moving.”

The Forest expansion is part of a broader effort to increase broadband access across Central and Southwest Virginia.

Xfinity has additional projects underway in Buchanan, Campbell County and Lynchburg.

The company is also working on a broadband expansion in the town of Bedford, where more than 4,500 homes and businesses are expected to gain access to high-speed internet.
