Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has become one of the most recognizable players in the WNBA, thanks in part to her outspoken personality and the massive spotlight on the Fever. But that fame has come with a serious downside.

During a recent appearance on Theo Von’s podcast, Cunningham revealed that she has dealt with stalkers, claiming that the FBI is currently keeping tabs on around 20 people on her behalf.

Sophie Cunningham’s Stalker

Earlier this year, an Indiana man named Kevin Singh was charged with felony stalking and intimidation, as well as misdemeanor harassment, after allegedly sending Cunningham a series of threatening and explicit messages on X, according to the Associated Press.

One of those messages allegedly read, “You’re literally down the street from me!” Singh also allegedly continued sending threatening messages after Cunningham’s team sent him a cease-and-desist letter in April.

Singh also allegedly hand-delivered a package addressed to “Sophie” at the Fever’s home arena last September, which contained a letter and a Guns N’ Roses T-shirt that had been sprayed with men’s cologne.

20 Stalkers

While discussing the Fever’s security, Cunningham explained that the increased visibility of the WNBA has its drawbacks.

“The more you’re visible on TV, you’re gonna get more fans. Like, people are gonna know who you are, and that’s a really great thing. But there’s also a lot of like, kind of crazy people too that like, we do have a lot of stalkers. I know I do. And like, that’s the negative side of things that people don’t think about,” Cunningham said, in a clip shared by Chief Nerd.

When Von asked if she has dealt with stalkers personally, Cunningham didn’t hesitate.

“Oh my gosh. Yeah. Like, I will have to check if I’m even allowed to say this, but like, I like have, I think, 20, I think, people kind of that the FBI are watching for me, me alone,” Cunningham said.

Von then asked for some of their names, which Cunningham said she was “definitely not allowed to say.” But she did open up about one of them.

“I know one of them,” Cunningham said, before adding, “I mean, he’s locked away now.”

“Actually, this is public knowledge. Yeah, his name’s Kevin. And the worst part about that is like my— I have a miniature donkey named Kevin, and now I’m like, well, [expletive], do I need to rename Kevin?” she added.

Needless to say, Cunningham’s comments are a reminder that the WNBA’s growing popularity has brought some unwanted attention along with it.
