Hip-hop pioneer MC Lyte, who is part of this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class, is set to perform during Game 7 of the WNBA Finals on Saturday.

The highly influential rapper will handle the halftime show duties during this Halloween matchup between the hometown Golden State Valkyries and the visiting Atlanta Dream at Chase Center in San Francisco.

With the series currently knotted up at 3-3, this game 7 will decide the 2026 WNBA championship.

Unlike the past three Finals halftime acts at Chase Center — San Francisco’s Larry June, Vallejo’s LaRussell and Oakland’s En Vogue — MC Lyte is not a Bay Area artist, but rather hails from Brooklyn.

MC Lyte rose to prominence in the late 80s, famously becoming the first female rapper to release a full-length studio album — the groundbreaking “Lyte as a Rock” — in 1988.

She’d later join forces with KRS-One and other talents in the supergroup known as Stop the Violence Movement. The group released “Self Destruction” in 1989 — which reportedly was the inaugural chart-topper on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart.

Over the years, she’s collaborated with Beyonce, Jay-Z, Aerosmith and many other top acts.

MC Lyte’s most recent album is “1 of 1,” her ninth full-length platter, which hits stores in 2024.

MC Lyte was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, under the musical influence category, earlier this year.

The national anthem at the WNBA Finals game 7 will be performed by the Glide Ensemble from Glide church in San Francisco.
