LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Bryan Health revealed its full plan for how the historic William Jennings Bryan House will be moved across its campus.
Friday morning, administrative leadership with Bryan Health gave a detailed play-by-play press conference of how the transportation of the historic William Jennings Bryan House is planned go down.
Due to need for Bryan Health to expand their Emergency Department, NICU, and Bryan College of Health Sciences, the healthcare organization began working with the city of Lincoln back in early 2025 to move the William Jennings home to a new spot.
Bryan Health said the conversation around what to do with the historic home did come up to alternatively remove the home “permanently”, but administration did not want to do that, and made the move to move the building instead.
The Move and Public Viewing
In an estimated eight to nine hour move, broken up into sections, Bryan Health will be hosting a viewing event that will be open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The house itself will move at an average speed of one mile an hour.

People wanting to participate are asked to park at Garage B, and will then be walked over to Bryan Health’s Sumner Garage for the full viewing party.
Along with a provided program, people in attendance will be able to check out belongings from the William Jennings house that will be up for auction.
Once the move is completed Saturday night, the house itself will sit at the corner of 52nd and A Streets for a week while foundational work is completed, and then eventually moved in permanently.
From there, the house won’t be occupied for two to three years, but will eventually become a ‘welcome center’ space, with space for administration and student services.
Leadership also noted the only delays to this project would be inclement weather, or if they were still waiting on a few more dollies that wouldn’t have arrived.
Bryan Health gives update on Nov. 7 move of William Jennings Bryan house(Bryan Health)Preparation
Before the big move, the Sumner Street side of the campus will begin closing down on the night of Nov. 3. at 7:30 p.m. but will not impact voting at the College of Health Services polling location.
From there, 500 tons of rock a day for two days will be brought in for the roadway the house will travel over.
With this being an active construction site, a number of traffic closures will then take effect (see below).
Any original brick that needs to be removed from the exterior of the home, will be reaffixed to the new permanent structure.
