Newly obtained video shows the terrifying moments shoppers ducked for cover as gunfire erupted inside a Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center in Fairfield on Friday night, leaving one woman dead and six others injured.
The video, obtained by KCRA 3, captures a loud bang followed by a woman gasping, “Oh my God.” Moments later, someone can be heard repeatedly pleading, “Please, please, please,” as shoppers crouch on the floor.
Emergency dispatch audio captured the response as authorities worked to evacuate and clear the shopping center.
“We’ve got approximately 30 people exiting the mall,” a dispatcher can be heard saying.
Madeline Francia told KCRA 3 she had been inside the store shortly before the shooting.
“We decided the line was too long, and we’d already been waiting there a half hour or so,” Francia said. She said they left just minutes before the gunfire.
Francia later witnessed the police response.
“I saw cops rushing in with guns,” she said.
Fairfield police identified the woman killed as 31-year-old Constance Hages. Her family told investigators she was pregnant, though authorities said that information would be confirmed by the Solano County coroner.
Three other victims, males ages 16, 19 and 32, remained in critical condition Saturday. A 23-year-old man was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, while two other men, ages 19 and 43, had been treated and released.
Investigators believe the shooting, reported around 8:30 p.m., stemmed from a targeted incident involving one suspect. No arrests had been announced as of Saturday night, and police had not publicly identified the person they were searching for.
The violence has left some Fairfield families uneasy about Halloween celebrations.
Rachel Segura told KCRA 3 she had visited the same store with her children earlier that day.
“It just blows my mind,” Segura said after learning about the deadly shooting.
Segura said the incident has made her more cautious about taking her children out without other family members.
“Because you don’t know,” she said, referring to the uncertainty surrounding the suspect.
The Solano Town Center canceled its planned Halloween trick-or-treating event Saturday. The FBI’s Sacramento office is assisting Fairfield police with the investigation.
