Irish duo Lauren Walsh and Leona Maguire both finished strongly at the Maybank Championship to ensure top-half leaderboard finishes.
The duo both struggled over the first two rounds at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, but rallied on Saturday, and that improved form continued on Sunday’s final round.
Walsh had an eventful round which featured two bogeys, a double bogey and seven birdies. Five of those birdies came during the final six holes as the Dublin woman finished strongly to sign for a 69.
That final round score saw Walsh finish the tournament on eight-under-par for a share of 31st place.
Maguire finished a shot further back from Walsh as her final round of 68 saw her finishing the tournament on seven-under, after hitting five birdies and a bogey.
At the top of the leaderboard, Japan’s Miyu Yamashita made history by successfully defending the title she won last year. She finished on an 22-under-par, securing victory by two strokes after a final-round 68.
Yamashita became the first player to win consecutive Maybank Championship titles, collecting the $450,000 prize and her fifth win on the LPGA Tour.
China’s Yan Liu claimed second place with 20-under, while France’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard and Thailand’s amateur Marisa Tojai shared third at 19-under.
