First Tee-Greater Pasadena held its annual Golf Invitational at Brookside Golf Club on Tuesday, Oct. 27, raising money for youth golf and life-skills programs in the chapter’s 20th anniversary year.
“Over 130 participants enjoyed a great day of golf while supporting our Chapter,” Master Executive Director Bob Baderian wrote in announcing the results.
The tournament, presented by the Rose Bowl Operating Company, came during First Tee – Greater Pasadena Month, which Mayor Victor M. Gordo proclaimed for October on behalf of the City Council. The proclamation credits the chapter with serving more than 265,000 youth and families since it began.
The chapter named the team of Jimmy Bragger, Lee Chen, Jonathon Lo and Ken Sutantyo the first-place winners. Steve Haderlein, David Chang, Alan Chuang and Jens Weiden finished second, and Steve Madison, Wayne Nix, Shawn Novak and Ethan Hedges placed third.
In the individual contests, Ken Kong and Jessica Powers won the men’s and women’s longest drive, and Zack Marchinsky and Michaele Long won the men’s and women’s closest to the pin.
Net proceeds from the tournament go to life-skills programs for the young people the chapter serves, ages 5 to 17. Through golf instruction and its Life Skills Experience curriculum, the chapter teaches values such as honesty, integrity, respect and perseverance, and it runs community outreach and adaptive golf programs.
In 2025, the chapter reached more than 15,900 young people through outreach programs and welcomed more than 1,600 participants into its Life Skills Experience classes, according to the chapter.
The chapter welcomed its first 66 participants at Brookside back in the summer of 2006, relying on members of local men’s and women’s golf clubs as its first coaches, according to the chapter. Its programs have since spread to courses including Altadena, Eaton Canyon, Arroyo Seco and Santa Anita.
The 2025 invitational, the chapter’s 17th, also drew more than 130 golfers to Brookside, the 36-hole municipal course near the Rose Bowl that remains the chapter’s home.
