WASHINGTON (7News) — The Washington Wizards announced they exercised their rookie-scale contract options on five members of their young core, reinforcing their commitment to the franchise’s developing talent.

The team picked up the fourth-year options on guard Bub Carrington, forward Kyshawn George, and forward/center Alex Sarr. Washington also exercised the third-year options on guard Tre Johnson and forward Will Riley.

The decisions ensure that all five players will remain under contract as the Wizards continue building for the future.

Sarr has quickly emerged as one of Washington’s most promising young frontcourt players, showcasing his defensive impact and two-way potential.

On October 26 against Charlotte, Sarr recorded his 200th career block. He became the only Wizards player since blocks were first officially tracked in 1973-74 to reach 200 career blocks before turning 22.

Sarr was also one of just two NBA players, alongside Victor Wembanyama, to average at least 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game during the 2025-26 season.

In 121 career games, he averaged 14.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. He is also a two-time NBA Rising Stars participant.

A two-time NBA Rising Stars selection, Bub Carrington has become a dependable presence in the Wizards’ backcourt.

He is averaging 10.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 37.6% from three-point range.

Carrington has appeared in all 170 games of his three-year career. His consecutive-games streak to begin a career is the second-longest in franchise history, trailing only Wes Unseld, who appeared in 238 straight games to start his career.

Kyshawn George has continued to demonstrate his all-around potential since entering the NBA.

During the 2025-26 season, George was one of just four NBA players aged 22 or younger to average at least 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. His performance also earned him NBA Rising Stars recognition.

Through 122 career games, George has averaged 11.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per contest.

Tre Johnson made an immediate impact during his rookie campaign, averaging 12.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 35.8% from beyond the arc. His performance earned him a selection to the 2026 NBA Rising Stars team.

Johnson has already demonstrated an ability to consistently produce from three-point range. Through 65 games in his two-year career, he has made at least two three-pointers in 37 contests, including 18 games with three or more triples.

Will Riley showed significant offensive promise during his first NBA season, averaging 10.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

He particularly stood out down the stretch, averaging 17.4 points per game while shooting 45.0% from the field over his final 16 games.

Riley also made franchise history with an impressive scoring stretch in April. He recorded back-to-back 30-point performances on April 4 and 5, becoming the first Wizards rookie to score at least 30 points in consecutive games since Calbert Cheaney did so in 1994.

Over 121 career games, he averages 14.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. He is also a two-time NBA Rising Stars participant.
