Thousands more gallons of sewage spill into Sedona’s Oak Creek

  • November 2, 2026

SEDONA, AZ (AZFamily) — Thousands more gallons of sewage spilled into Sedona’s Oak Creek on Sunday as heavy rainfall overwhelmed local pump stations, according to Sedona city officials.

At around 9:45 a.m., officials said a sewer spill entered Oak Creek near Bear Wallow Lane. Officials estimate 2,700 gallons spilled into the creek.

The Bear Wallow Pump Station became overwhelmed during heavy rain, and the pumps could not keep up with the flow rate, officials said.

Pumper trucks were sent to assist and normal operations at the pump station resumed at around 11:15 a.m.

Officials said they did not notify residents because of active evacuations. Water quality sampling has not been conducted due to safety reasons.

Last Sunday, between 1,000 and 5,000 gallons of untreated wastewater entered Oak Creek. That spill was contained within two hours, officials said, and the area was disinfected.

Crews reportedly traced the problem to a grease clog at a restaurant, which caused untreated wastewater to flow from a manhole into a storm drain and into Oak Creek.
