The assistant director of operations at Fayette EMS was taken into custody following a hit-and-run crash that severely injured one person Saturday night. In a release from Pennsylvania State Police, officials were called to the intersection of East End Road and Memorial Boulevard in Bullskin Township just after 10:30 p.m. following reports of a crash involving multiple vehicles. The investigation determined that a 2019 Dodge Journey and a 2011 Dodge Caravan were first stopped in the left-hand turn lane of Memorial Boulevard. Officials said another vehicle, operated by 46-year-old Matthew McKnight, then entered the same lane at a high rate of speed and hit the Dodge Caravan The impact then pushed the Caravan into the Dodge Journey. Following the crash, officials said McKnight left the scene and was later found at his nearby home. His vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage consistent with the crash.McKnight was then taken into custody. According to Fayette County’s EMS website, McKnight is listed as the assistant director of operations. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 reached out to the emergency department for more information on McKnight’s current status. The chief of the department told Action News 4 in an email Sunday that McKnight was immediately suspended as a result of the incident.Following the crash, the operator of the Dodge Caravan was said to have sustained serious injuries from the crash and was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was last said to be in critical condition. State police said McKnight is facing multiple charges, including DUI and aggravated assault by vehicle. An investigation is ongoing.
