The first two stages of DP World Tour Q School are over – and many eyes were on three LIV Golf stars who were hoping to make their way up to Europe’s top table…

Three LIV Golf players who teed up in the Second Stage of DP World Tour Q School all failed to make it through to the next round – though one was handed a late reprieve.

Of the 320 players who teed up across four events in Spain, 80 will move onto the Final Stage where they will join anyone already exempt – but the LIV trio will not be there.

Luis Masaveu, who banked almost $8 million in two seasons on Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC, finished in a tie for 16th at Las Pinaillas, before the 23-year-old lost out in a six-man playoff which saw four advance to the final. Masaveu was instead named as a first alternate before later being included in the field.

There will be no such reprieve for Sam Horsfield, who was hoping to play his way back to Europe’s top table. The Englishman, who is $14m richer thanks to five years on Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood’s Majesticks GC, could only manage to get to 3-under par – nine shots back of the magic number at Isla Canela.

The same goes for Michael La Sasso, who was one of the hottest amateurs in the game when he joined Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC for the 2026 season, earned $6m in his year on the league, including victory in Indianapolis which might still prove to be the last ever LIV event. But he will have to find another route to a tour card for next season after finishing in a tie for 64th at Desert Springs.

There were four other names connected with LIV involved in Second Stage. Yosuke Asaji, who made almost $2m as a LIV wildcard this season, missed out by a single shot at Desert Springs, while Kieran Vincent, who played two seasons on LIV in 2023 and ’24 and banked more than $5m in the process, made it through thanks to a runner-up finish.

Also going to the Final Stage are Ben Schmidt, who stepped in to replace an injured Lee Westwood earlier this year, and Luis Carrera, a Crushers reserve at LIV Golf Mexico, who enjoyed top-10 finishes at Las Pinaillas and Isla Canela respectively.

Among the field at Infinitum will be Masaveu’s former Fireballs teammate Jose Luis Ballester. Bizarrely, the Spaniard had teed up in First Stage of Q School before withdrawing from the Second Stage. This, the DP World Tour told TG, is because he has earned an exemption as an affiliate member.

A DP World Tour spokeperson explained: “Exemption A states players 101-145 on the Race to Dubai Rankings, followed by affiliates, HotelPlanner Tour-ranked members, and ranked amateurs who have earned the same or more points on the non-member points list at the 145th player on the Race to Dubai Rankings.

“Jose Luis is 320.85 points on the non-member points list. The 145th player on the Race to Dubai Rankings has 286.84 meaning Jose Luis qualifies through exemption A as he has earned enough points.”
