As running back Kanye Udoh enters his first season with Arizona State, questions linger how the running game will look for the Sun Devils after losing Cam Skattebo to the NFL.
While the offense looks to be more pass-heavy this season with redshirt sophomore quarterback Sam Leavitt, one college football writer listed Udoh as the eighth most impactful player in the 2025 College Football Playoff chase.
The Athletic’s Manny Navarro says Udoh’s performance will play a part in the Sun Devils’ College Football Playoff chances this season.
Skattebo’s impact on the Sun Devils last season didn’t become evident on a large scale until late in the season. Udoh, who is bigger than Skattebo at 6-1, 220 pounds, enters the lead back role with a stronger resume than his predecessor.
How Kanye Udoh looks entering first season with ASU?
Udoh is coming off a strong 2024 campaign with Army where he rushed for 1,117 yards (6.2 yards per carry) and 10 touchdowns.
Udoh will look to compete for the RB1 spot on the offense along with junior running backs Raleek Brown and Kyson Brown.
Raleek and Kyson received limited playing time last season behind Skattebo, with the latter of the duo receiving notable playing time against UCF when Skattebo was out where Kyson rushed for 73 yards. Kyson also performed well during the Territorial Cup, rushing for 100 yards and registered 31 receiving yards in relief of Skattebo during a blowout win against Arizona.
