Scotty Middleton either lost 25 pounds over the last two years playing college basketball or Tulane exposed Ohio State and Seton Hall for lying about his actual weight. Roster inflation is very real!
Regardless of what happened along the way, this latest listing is cause for legitimate concern— if true…
There is no reason an athletes of Middleton’s size should weigh less than the majority of his teammates after three full offseasons working with with a college basketball strength and conditioning staff. The Green Wave needs to get him a bench press and some gumbo as soon as possible.
Who is Scotty Middleton?
Middleton hails from Miami, Florida. He played his freshman season of high school basketball at Christopher Columbus, transferred to The Patrick School in New Jersey as a sophomore, and finished his career at Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas.
Middleton was rated as a four-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2023. He was ranked as the No. 11 small forward in the country and a top-50 player overall.
Ohio State ultimately received his commitment over UConn, Michigan State, Xavier, Texas A&M, Kansas and DePaul, among others. The 6-foot-6 wing averaged 4.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game for the Buckeyes.
He ultimately decided to hit the transfer portal after his freshman season and averaged 5.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 21 minutes per game at Seton Hall as a sophomore.
Middleton re-entered the transfer portal at the beginning of April and landed at Tulane.
How much does he weigh?
Herein lies the mystery.
247 Sports listed Scotty Middleton at 6-foot-6, 180 pounds as a senior in high school. That was three years ago.
Middleton arrived to Columbus in time for summer workouts in the summer of 2023. Ohio State listed him on the roster at 6-foot-7, 190 pounds as a true freshman.
It is very possible that he gained a few pounds during his first few months as a collegiate athlete. I doubt that he ever got up to 190.
Seton Hall also listed Middleton at 6-foot-7 last season but the roster dropped him down to 181 pounds.
The Pirates were probably more honest about his weight. He also might’ve lost a few lbs between his freshman and sophomore seasons. Fine.
This is where it gets weird.
Tulane lists its new small forward at 6-foot-6. I am sure this more accurately reflects his true height. I cannot imagine that he shrunk. A one-inch difference is not a big deal. Whatever.
However, the Green Wave dropped Middleton even further down to 165 pounds. 165 is not 190.
So what happened?
Either Scotty Middleton lost 25 pounds between June 2023 and August 2025, this new listed weight is a super awkward typo, or the Buckeyes and Pirates were lying. I tend to think it was the latter.
If not, this is a huge problem. A 6-foot-6 small forward should not be playing college basketball at 165!
