(AP) — Employees of the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families who work at the Friendship Street building in Providence were asked to work remotely Monday after a bat was sighted in the building.
According to a letter from Director Ashley Deckert made available to NBC 10 News, a bat was spotted on the second floor of 101 Friendship St. on Sunday.
Staffers were given until 10 a.m. Monday to pick up anything they needed to work remotely. The letter said the moves were made with health and safety as a priority.
“Our pest control provider was called in to remove the bat this morning, inspect the building and determine the point of entry,” a statement said. “We are working closely with the landlord, property manager and pest control provider to address the issue and comply with all necessary standards.”
DCYF said a bat was also removed on Thursday.
A return to the office was not immediately clear.
