There are a lot of snakes that call our state home, and most of them aren’t venomous. That said, some are, and it’s probably a good idea to know how to spot them.

There are 44 species of snakes living in Alabama, and of those, six are venomous. And while most people can pick out a rattlesnake — it’s probably the rattle that gives it away — the tricky part comes in knowing what kind of rattlesnake it is.

So with that in mind, we put together a photo quiz about Alabama’s venomous snakes so you can test your knowledge.

And if you don’t like your score, you can always use this article about how to identify venomous snakes as a study guide for the second go-round. (But don’t look at it before the quiz because that’s a lot like cheating.)
