The Las Vegas Aces are red-hot as the WNBA regular season inches into its final 10 games. The former two-time WNBA champions, fresh off an early-summer stretch of poor play. are currently on a seven-game winning streak thanks to the dynamic duo of A’Ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray, weathering

Wilson made headlines after the team’s nervy 86-83 win over the Phoenix Mercury on Friday, making a bizarre analogy while discussing her strong play.

“And I told myself after [the] All-Star break to just let the game come to me, like it’s gonna be what it’s gonna be,” Wilson told reporters postgame. “If I try [to] force it because I want this win so bad for my team, it’s like forcing a fart. All you get is —-.”

Gray, sitting by her side, was aghast. Wilson continued, adding “I’ve just really learned to be patient with myself, but also with my teammates.”

Gray, who finished the game with 16 points and nine assists, wouldn’t allow the moment to be passed by. “That’s gonna go viral,” she said with a shocked face.

Wilson dropped a ho-hum 30 points and 15 rebounds against the Mercury and upped her game to another level in the Aces’ win over Paige Bueckers and the slumping Dallas Wings on Sunday, scoring 34 points with eight rebounds.

The stat line made the Las Vegas superstar tie Angel McCoughtry for the second-most 30-point contests in WNBA history with 38.

Maddy Siegrist, who led Dallas with 23 points in her team’s 106-87 defeat, spoke effusively of Wilson following the contest. “[Wilson] is an unbelievable player,” she said.

“Whether you guard her one-on-one or with two people, she’s going to consistently shoot over the top. We just have to do a better job limiting her touches. When she catches it on the low or mid-range like that, there’s not much you can do.”

Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon echoed the sentiment. “The team is playing better, that always helps, but her efficiency and getting 30 from however many shots is quite the accomplishment, but even she’ll tell you she’s more interested in the wins,” she said.

The 21-14 Aces host the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night as they continue to jockey for seeding in the crowded Western Conference. The team currently sits level with the Mercury (and eight games behind the dominant Minnesota Lynx).
